Welcome to Remembering Empire!

Remembering Empire is an interdisciplinary learning programme developed by academics at the University of Stirling. It brings together French language, history, culture and global citizenship to engage pupils of different ages through clear classroom materials.

Remembering Empire offers a programme of learning aimed at two groups of learners:

S3 learners of French

Using a specially designed comic as stimulus, pupils are introduced to questions of emigration, colonisation and refugee experience. The sessions include language learning points such as asking questions, talking about daily routines etc.
AHE thumbnail

Learners of Advanced Higher French

Remembering Empire is designed to support learners through the Portfolio element of Advanced Higher French. It includes everything needed to complete the Portfolio:
– a short French play on memories of the French empire
– a written interview with the playwright
– sessions on the play’s historical and cultural context
– sessions analysing the play in detail
– character profile guides
– a recording of the play to watch
– suggested essay question and essay plan.
