A Cartography of Exile
The interactive map is embedded with resources which provide information about specific geographical locations. Some are links to museums and archives which are open to the public; others are embedded images, short videos, and sound-files which relate to events which took place at the selected location. The majority of the sites in this map relate to colonial Algeria and its memorial afterlives in France. It incorporates sites of importance for a variety of communities located in France - Arab and Berber immigrants, Algerian Jews, harkis - whose experiences intersect with those of the pieds-noirs.
The postcards are reproduced with the kind permission of 'La Mer à Boire’ society and the Redoute Béar Museum in Port-Vendres. Les cartes postales sont reproduites avec l’aimable autorisation de l’association 'La Mer à Boire’ et le musée à la Redoute Béar à Port-Vendres.
